June marks Caribbean American Heritage Month, an important time to celebrate the diverse contributions of Caribbean Americans to the United States’ cultural, economic, and social landscape. This month-long commemoration offers an opportunity to honor the heritage and history shared by people from the Caribbean and their descendants.
Caribbean American Heritage Month was officially recognized in 2005 to acknowledge the significant impact of Caribbean immigrants in various fields, including politics, business, education, and the arts.
Deseree Scott, PMP Business Development Coordinator and Project Manager at Tidal Basin Caribe in the US Virgin Islands shared her thoughts on the significance of this observance: «Caribbean American Heritage Month is a time to reflect on and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and numerous contributions of Caribbean Americans. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge our shared history, recognize our achievements.»
The Caribbean comprises over 25 countries and territories, including the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic. Each nation boasts unique cultural traditions, languages, and histories, contributing to the rich tapestry of Caribbean American identity.
