About the IEMA-OHS Training Summit

The IEMA-OHS Annual Training Summit, themed «Stronger Together: Building Whole Community Resilience,» will be hosted by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security. The event will take place from September 3-6, 2024, at the Bank of Springfield Center in downtown Springfield.

Disaster Response Specialist

As a Disaster Response Specialist, you will deploy to disaster-affected areas to provide on-the-ground support, assisting in setting up, managing, coordinating, and supporting the operational needs of the response effort. You will follow and enforce all guidelines, policies, and procedures associated with the assignment, ensuring clear communication and the provision of accurate and timely information as directed.

In this role, you will support disaster survivors in Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs), shelters, or other locations, and provide assistance to Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) by fulfilling duty positions related to response areas of responsibilities. Collaboration with local agencies, non-profit organizations, and volunteers is essential to maximize support efforts and streamline response activities. You will maintain accurate records of activities, including incident logs, inventories, and operational updates, and prepare detailed reports for internal review and external reporting to stakeholders as directed. Participation in and assistance with training programs to ensure a knowledgeable team that meets all project requirements is also a key responsibility.

Additionally, you will assist in planning and conducting drills and exercises to complement and improve readiness and complete required training as directed. Other duties may be assigned to ensure the success of the mission.

Emergency Management Specialist

As an Emergency Management Specialist, you will be responsible for performing onsite duties at Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) as requested by clients, monitoring and observing debris loading and hauling activities, and conducting site inspections and preliminary damage assessments. You will document damages, develop scopes of work for repairs, and provide cost estimates.

Essential duties include developing federal grant applications (FEMA Project Worksheets) for all categories of work, ensuring review and quality assurance regarding damage descriptions, scopes of work, cost estimates, and Public Assistance (PA) eligibility. You will offer guidance on FEMA’s Grants Portal, including the use of reporting functions, and provide programmatic and technical assistance as required.

Your role will involve collecting, analyzing, organizing, and summarizing financial data, formulating projects of various sizes, and performing validations. Additionally, you will assist with the preparation of change of scope requests, alternate project requests, improved project requests, time extension requests, project worksheet amendments, and audit preparations. You will also apply PA Simplified and Alternative Procedures, conduct project reviews for payment requests, and prepare grants for and conduct net small project closeouts and individual large project closeouts.
