Tallahassee, FL —From March 3 through March 9, OUR Florida approved 4,115 applications and obligated more than $30 million in relief to families behind on rent and utilities payments. More than $1.07 billion has been obligated to 196,886 households across Florida since the program launched May 10, 2021.
“Behind every application is a family in need, a person facing rental debt or a loved one in fear of eviction,” said Mark Misczak, COO of Tidal Basin Group, which manages program delivery of OUR Florida. “Our partnership with Florida Department of Children and Families is one of utmost importance, one that serves the people of the Sunshine State and addresses the threat of housing insecurities.”
Recently, an OUR Florida case manager received a kind response from a tenant in Orlando who found hope with OUR Florida.
“When I needed help the most, I was extremely lucky to have found OUR Florida,” said Michael J. “There are times in life when we stumble and then fall. In my case, I fell flat on my face. With OUR Florida, I’m now back on my feet.”
This tenant is just one of the 196,886 households in Florida who were able to remain in their homes with the help of OUR Florida.
OUR Florida provides Opportunities for Utilities and Rental assistance to Florida families and businesses.Families who receive rent and utilities payments through OUR Florida can focus on getting back on track. Property owners who receive relief on behalf of their tenants are able to recover their losses.
Floridians who rent the home, apartment, or other dwelling where they live can apply for relief through OUR Florida. To be eligible for benefits, renters must be low income or unemployed, experienced a loss of income or financial hardship during the last year, and behind on rent or utility payments, or at risk of falling behind.
