Tidal Basin provided a one-day, two-part evacuation workshop to Palmetto General Hospital (PGH) in Hialeah, Florida that was attended by approximately 50 clinical and non-clinical staff members. This training also served as the training genesis for the PGH Hospital Response Team (HRT).
The first part of the workshop consisted of a lecture-based presentation by Tidal Basin’s Director of Healthcare Services, Kristopher Prickett. The presentation provided an introduction to hospital evacuation decision making, case studies on hospital evacuations over the past 20 years, and a description of the evacuation apparatuses available within the hospital.
The second part of the workshop consisted of hands-on practical training utilizing the Med Sled system. This system allows hospital staff members to safely evacuate a patient down multiple flights of stairs when other transportation methods are not available without jeopardizing patient safety or quality of care.
In addition to the workshop, the Tidal Basin Healthcare team has previously provided PGH with a full-scale mass casualty exercise in December of 2018.
